South Korea has developed a new fighter jet that is used for training. It is called the T-50 and it is made by Korea Aerospace Industries. The plane can somewhat be compared to an F-16 for purposes of training and it competes with a plane from Italy. Israel is currently in the market for this type of aircraft for its air force and they are in the process of deciding which of the two jets they will go with.

South Korea is trying very hard to convince the Israel Defense Forces to choose the T-50, but not necessarily because of their order size and the money it would bring. They want Israel to choose the T-50 because that will give their plane and their country the credibility needed to sell to all other advanced countries. In terms of military air forces, Israel is regarded as one of, if not the best in the world. When the Israeli air force decides to purchase a particular piece of equipment, then that product instantly is regarded as the best of its kind. This gives all other advanced militaries the direction they are looking for when deciding what to buy.

It just so happens that the U.S. military is said to be looking to purchase 500 fighter jet trainers, which is considered to be a very large order. If Israel chooses the South Korean jet, then there is a very good chance that the U.S. will do the same. South Korea needs a highly respected air force like Israel’s to buy their planes because they are relative newcomers to that industry. By having Israel buy the T-50, it will go a long way to proving themselves and this will bode very well for their future in this industry. We will see in the coming weeks or months if their hopes become reality.
