Movie review: The Devil’s Double

The Devil's Double Pictures, Images and Photos
I recently watched a movie that not many people have seen or even heard about. It is called The Devil’s Double and it’s based on a true story. The movie is centered around the body double of Uday Hussein, Saddam Hussein’s oldest son and Uday Hussein himself. From my understanding the movie tries to follow real events as closely as possible which is something I really like. It is a very interesting and entertaining film. Dominic Cooper, the actor who plays both Uday Hussein and his body double, Latif Yahia did a great job. He was able to sell both characters very well which is hard to do.

The movie shows how awful the Saddam Hussein regime was to the Iraqi people and Kuwait. It also shows how crazy and evil Uday Hussein was. This movie was received well by critics but is not out in every movie theatre like most movies are. It is also not considered a big budget film with a budget of about $20 million. However, you wouldn’t be able to tell by watching it. This may be the best part of the movie. Often times when a movie is a low budget project you can tell by watching it. However, this film did not appear to cut corners on anything. The fancy cars Uday drove were not too expensive because the movie is mostly set in the 90′s so they didn’t need to get brand new ones. They were able to have their cake and eat it too.

Overall, I would recommend everyone watch this movie. It is not only an entertaining way to spend two hours, but it serves as a realistic window into how Saddam Hussein and his oldest son Uday treated their own people. It will even make you not feel as bad that the U.S. invaded Iraq the second time since they killed Saddam and his two sons.
