Google for marketing plan

Many companies rely on Google as part of their marketing plan for their business. It is a very useful tool that can generate leads and sales to many companies. It is a good strategy to have this as part of the marketing plan for many companies. This is especially true if the company has a good website. However, there are also companies that use Google as their only form of marketing and lead generation tool. This is a bad idea. There are many reasons why this is a bad idea, but Google’s recent announcement highlights one of them.

Google announced this week that it was making a change to their algorithms that choose which results show up for each search term. They say it is aimed at improving the ranking of high quality sites and reducing the ranking of low quality ones. They say this change will affect about 12% of search queries and this means that companies may see a pick-up or drop-off in traffic due to the change.

If your business relies strictly on Google to generate traffic and this change ends up hurting your business then you are simply screwed. Since you do not do any other form of lead generation like developing relationships, creating some sort of referral program or make any serious attempt to build a network for your business, then Google literally has you by the throat. They aren’t hurting your business on purpose, but at the end of the day they are looking out for their interests and don’t care about yours. It is up to you to make sure the destiny of your business is in your control. By relying 100% on Google, you are putting essentially all of the control of your business in someone else’s hands.

This is never a good idea in any business and with any strategy, even Google searches. Nothing replaces relationship building and effective networking. These are things that will give you more control of your business and will help grow it in a sustainable manner. Google is important, but being in control of your business and building relationships are more important.
